basic background

Blaise is 'new money'. His fortune was inherited from his father, an Italian Pure-blood, who earned it all himself through a variety of business ventures, some of them barely legal. Blaise has always been sensitive to the fact that his father had humble beginnings, although he was already a rich man when he met and married the stunning Aphrodite Ndebele, Blaise's mother. Ancient family lines with lots of old money like the Malfoys, make Blaise envious, although he'd never confess it. He's become very good over the years at hiding his true feelings and pretending not to be affected by things even though he feels deeply. Losing his father at the age of two, not to mention a successive string of step-fathers, has left Blaise skeptical about love and afraid of forming serious attachments.

From his mother, Blaise has learned to be charming, read people, and use his good looks to open doors. From his father's journals, he's learning how to spot opportunities and is becoming a successful investor. He is rather aloof, preferring to watch from the sidelines until he has a good idea of what he's getting himself into, but he is cordial to nearly everyone. Blaise does not believe in burning bridges or choosing sides if it can be helped. He feels that it's not wise to climb over people you may later need. He's a good wizard, talented enough in a variety of subjects to have earned more than a handful of N.E.W.T.s, including Outstandings in Arthimancy and Divination.

Ginny Weasley once characterized Blaise as 'a poser', although Blaise calls it being adaptable and thinks of it as a positive trait, Ginny was right about him. Blaise adapts to fit in and often mimics those with money, influence or power to appear to be one of them. Since the end of the war, Blaise has been busy setting himself up as an investor and avoiding his mother's encouragement to marry for wealth.
